About the Colfax Red Cedar Preserve & Recreation Area
The Colfax Red Cedar Preserve and Recreation Area is comprised of over 150 acres bordered predominately by the Red Cedar River.
The property includes a 12 acre pond that is popular for fishing, bird and turtle watching, a beaver lodge and motorless boating. A perimeter walking path takes hikers, cross country skiers and snowshoers through and by wooded areas, river side viewing, open grassland vistas and forest flood plain. The paths and entry roadway allow river access for kayakers, tubers and canoeists.
Since the purchase of the property in December 2019, ongoing efforts are continuing to improve the wildlife habitat and to develop wheelchair access to the pond, picnic sites, educational opportunities on the grounds and benches for quiet moments to enjoy all that nature offers.
